How do you feel when you see Macon, shown locked in a cage without water or food for weeks suffering from mange, dermatitis and unimaginable pain from starvation and dehydration? Guam Animals in Need, Inc. (G.A.I.N.) asks that you take these undoubtedly overwhelming emotions and join us to change what is unfortunately a reality for too many other dogs and cats on our island. By signing this petition, you are helping us inform our elected officials that we, as a community, will not tolerate animal cruelty on our island.
We are asking that these types of cases be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law by The Office of the Attorney General of Guam. Dismissal of charges or imposition of minimal penalties will no longer be acceptable punishment for the act of flagrant animal abuse and neglect on Guam.
So many others, just like Macon can be saved if we speak up for them, when they do not have a voice of their own.
We, Guam Animals In Need, Inc. (G.A.I.N.) and the undersigned are writing to you in hopes that we are able to shed light on the extent of animal cruelty and neglect that occurs on our beautiful island of Guam. We believe that currently, the lack of acceptable punishment imposed on those who commit a crime as severe as that described in Macon's cruelty case, is the epitome of absolute injustice.
Macon was literally padlocked in a cage without water or food for weeks. It is no doubt that he suffered excruciating pain from the combined effects of advanced mange, dermatitis, open sores and extreme starvation and dehydration. In addition to this, he is also deaf, which was only discovered after he was confiscated from the residence. Imagine that: suffering unbearable physical afflictions, alone in a silent world, without a chance of survival.
Thankfully, he was saved before he succumbed to his physical misery and died mercilessly at the hand of man. Unfortunately he is not the first to be exposed to this sort of heinous cruelty, nor will he be the last without your help.
This petition is a call to action. We respectfully request that the Office of the Attorney General of Guam prosecutes this case to the fullest measure allowed by law. We hope that by providing justice for Macon, others will be saved from the kind of horrifying pain and suffering that he was forced to endure.
