A Representative Baudler in Iowa has been working to get tougher laws that will stop the abuse, stating that "We have been listed as 49th worst state for animal laws. Our strongest law is currently an aggravated misdemeanor, even on torture. It's the second time you're caught torturing an animal that it can rise to a felony level." There definitely is something wrong with this type of law but the belief by other lawmakers is tougher laws won’t stop crimes against animals.
With its current laws, Iowa officials won’t be able to put an end to animal cruelty, abuse and neglect because current charges and penalties are so menial that they do not make an impact on the alleged abusers. The purpose of this petition is to support Representative Baudler and encourage Iowa State Legislators to implement much stricter laws for any and all forms of animal abuse and cruelty, ensuring felony charges and severe accountability.
