Press Senate on Climate Legislation

Climate change threatens to reverse the gains being made against poverty and disease in some of the poorest countries on earth. Countries such as Malawi, Kenya and Ethiopia face increased droughts, floods and storms, eroded coastlines, falling crop yields and the spread of waterborne and insect-driven diseases.

The House has already passed its climate change bill, but it only commits 1 percent of revenue to climate projects in the developing world. Estimates from experts at the World Bank and United Nations show that's not nearly enough to build all of the seawalls, dams and other important infrastructure that will allow vulnerable countries to meet the challenge of climate change head-on.

The Senate must do better. Ask your senators to make sure their bill includes that critical 5 percent for the world's poorest people, as the first step in a wide-ranging, global effort to help those most in need.
