Sadly, the fragile ceasefire in Gaza is not the end of the suffering. It's just the start of a long and difficult road to recovery. After 15 long months of relentless bombing, people in Gaza can finally begin the journey of rebuilding their lives and international organisations have an opportunity to supply urgent vital aid.
Since the beginning of the conflict, on average 10 children a day have lost their legs due to the bombing. Thousands of people have been crammed in inhumane camps, some no bigger than a football field with just a few makeshift toilets to share. While a ceasefire will bring some relief, recovery will be long. People in Gaza are returning home to rubble; their homes, communities and hospitals have been completely wiped out and it will take years to rebuild again.
Humanity & Inclusion teams have been on the ground since the beginning of the conflict in October 2023, supplying crutches, medical kits and hygiene supplies. But now, we finally have a chance to do more. We want to provide children with prosthetic limbs and rehabilitation support so they can walk again.
For too long, severely injured children have been trapped without the medical care they desperately need because of strict restrictions placed on humanitarian aid. But now, we have a rare opportunity to break through these barriers.
