Pigs are suffering and dying in medical school training labs at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Chattanooga (UTCOMC). They need your help!
To practice surgery techniques, medical students make incisions into live pigs' abdomens and insert surgical devices. At the end of the training, each pig is killed one by one.
This is animal cruelty 101! Not only that, but this kind of training is ineffective.
Cutting up and killing innocent animals to train future doctors is an outrage – there are superior, nonanimal methods! In fact, all other accredited medical schools in the U.S. and Canada have switched to nonanimal methods!
Please help stop this cruelty by taking action. Sign PCRM's petition to the executive dean for the College of Medicine, David M. Stern, M.D. and the Chattanooga campus of the College of Medicine interim dean Robert C. Fore, Ed. D, – urge them to stop killing pigs and switch to simulation now!

I am writing to ask that you immediately end the use of live pigs in the medical student curriculum at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Chattanooga (UTCOMC). There is no need to use pigs to teach medical students basic surgical skills when superior nonanimal training methods are available. UTCOMC is providing future physicians with an education that is subpar compared to its counterparts across the country. It is the only accredited medical school in the U.S. or Canada still using this outdated practice. Please end this practice immediately.
