Take action to help fight critical medication shortages in American hospitals!
Shortages of critical medications are placing an enormous strain on the healthcare system and jeopardizing access to care for millions of Americans.
Hospitals and their group purchasing organizations (GPOs) – the partner that hospitals use to source and facilitate the purchase of medications and other supplies – are working every day to prevent and lessen the impact of shortages. Hospital GPOs work to ensure that there are enough manufacturers and supply in the market, encourage new suppliers to come to the market for drugs that are at risk of shortage, evaluate the reliability of suppliers, track data on potential shortages to warn hospitals, and help hospitals identify and switch to alternative suppliers when there are disruptions in supply.
The Biden administration is considering policies to address drug shortages and is asking for public comments about drug shortages and the role of GPOs. Any policy that negatively impacted the ability of GPOs to serve their member hospitals would make it more difficult for hospitals to protect patient access to care.
Help us ensure that patients have uninterrupted access to the treatments they need.
Join us today and send a note to the Biden administration about the important role that hospitals and GPOs play in fighting drug shortages.
Dear FTC,
Shortages of critical medications are placing an enormous strain on the healthcare system and jeopardizing access to care for millions of Americans.
Hospitals and their group purchasing organization (GPO) partners are fighting every day to prevent shortages and to ensure that patients have consistent access to the care they need. Traditional healthcare GPOs work to ensure there are enough manufacturers and supply of drugs; encourage new suppliers to come to market for drugs that are at risk of shortage; evaluate the reliability of suppliers and likelihood that suppliers will be able to fill orders; track data on potential shortages; and help hospitals identify and switch to alternative suppliers when there are disruptions to supply.
Please protect the ability of hospitals and GPOs to continue fighting drug shortages.
Thank you
