Protect the Innocence of Our Children at GB3 Childcare
Hello fellow GB3 parents and daycare users:
I want to make you aware of a situation that occurred at the daycare at the Clovis gym location in early October. First, it saddens me that I have to take this issue to petition to try and bring resolution. I do not want to bring any bad press to GB3 as I am a loyal customer of their facilities and have only had positive experiences with both their daycare and gym up until this point.
On October 2nd I went to the gym, after my workout I picked up my kids, like usual. When I arrived, my 4 year old son was was sitting at a table with a child that appeared to be 8 years old and another 6 year old(ish) child. They were watching the 8 year old play on his tablet. We don’t really allow screens at home but I wasn't worried about my son playing a few video games with a friend. Anyhow, I told my son to go get his shoes on and was standing behind the 8 year old while my children grabbed their belongings. As I stood there I watched the 8 year old type the F word into a search engine. I immediately went to stop him but realized he wasn't my child, restrained myself and grabbed an employee who then monitored him and took the tablet away. You can only imagine the images that pop up from typing that word into a search engine. It kind of tore my heart out to think my 4 year old son could have been exposed to that there at the gym while I was working out. Thankfully he wasn’t (from what I could gather from questioning him) but that experience was a huge wake up call for me. I took my concerns to the gym management and after speaking with Mary for two weeks she took it to George and explained that they made a new policy at the gym. They posted a sign on the door advising parents that “If your child brings a tablet, please make sure that they are watching appropriate content.” Sadly, that proposed solution is not good enough to ensure my child’s innocence is protected. I know that the gym can do better. There are no outside snacks allowed, no outside toys allowed, why do they allow tablets. There are no filters and controls in place to monitor these devices and with varying age children in the daycare there is no way to ensure with certainty that appropriate content is being viewed. I spoke with many of my personal friends who were also upset with the electronics policy at the gym. Many contacted the daycare manager Mary and again were told this issue has been resolved by their new policy. Again, I believe the gym can do better. I have not taken my children to the daycare since this incident. I am asking for your signature to request a new policy at the daycare that will NOT allow children to play on an electronic device at the gym. There are toys, play equipment and a shared t.v. Most parents exercise for an hour and children should be able to go without electronics for an hour to ensure the safety of all children. I feel like this is a reasonable request. Please join me in taking a stand to protect our childrens’ innocence. No parent should have to worry about what their toddler is being exposed to in the gym daycare.
