California Just Banned Brutal Fur Trapping. Demand the Rest of the United States Do the Same!

We have some exciting news! California just became the very first state in the entire U.S. to ban the cruel and torturous practice of fur trapping. This is a huge step forward that will save countless animals' lives and prevent them from dying extremely gruesome and painful deaths, all so that some human can wear their skinned fur as a fashion statement.

California made the right choice, and one that will be lauded in future generations' history books. Now it's time for the rest of the United States to follow their lead.

Under California's new law, commercial trapping of native wildlife species — including gray foxes, beavers, coyotes, badgers, and mink — will be prohibited. Luckily, the state had already banned cruel steel-jaw leghold traps in 1998, but that didn't stop trappers from using other horrific methods to obtain these animals' dead bodies.

In order to preserve the animals' untarnished fur, trappers resorted to heinous practices such as strangulation, gassing, shooting, and worse. After trapping, torturing, and ultimately murdering the animals, trappers would skin their bodies and sell them in foreign fur markets.

But in other states, trappers are continuing to use these same methods to this day.

In fact, this brutality is still tolerated and legal in every single other U.S. state. Fur trapping also leads to massive wildlife die-offs, causing severe and frightening population declines, and sometimes even extinction. In California, for example, trapping had disastrous effects on the populations of sea otters, beavers, and martens, and even contributed to the extinction of both wolves and wolverines.

It's time for the entire United States to ban this bloody, murderous business. Not only does it cause untold suffering to the poor animals involved, it's also not even in demand any more. In fact, many large fashion companies no longer even want to buy fur. Armani, Gucci, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein are just a few of the companies that have gone fur-free.

The arc of history is clear here. Fur is a sickening, cruel relic of the past. The future is fur-free. Tell the U.S. Congress to ban fur trapping throughout the entire nation!
