Hundreds of people die every year when pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and occupants of passenger vehicles go under trucks. It can happen to anyone -- even if their car has a 5-Star Safety Rating -- like it happened to:
- 17-year-old AnnaLeah & 13-year-old Mary Karth when their car went under the rear of a semi-trailer in Georgia on May 4, 2013.
- 26-year-old Roya Sadigh when her car went under the side of a truck in Indiana on November 24, 2004.
- 16 year-old Riley Hein when he burned to death under the side of a truck on November 13, 2015.
- 21 year-old Sylvia Bingham when her bicycle went under a truck on September 15, 2009.
Families of underride victims & safety advocates are calling for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to end decades of debate and issue underride regulations. Sign this petition & tell the Secretary of Transportation, Peter Buttigieg, to issue a new rule requiring trailer manufacturers to install side underride guards on all new trucks.
Engineers know how to solve this problem. Give them a green light to get the job done! Together we can make truck crashes more survivable.
