Trump Found Guilty. He Is Unfit to Ever Be President Again.

Donald Trump was just found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in an effort to influence the results of the 2016 election.

This is huge. For the first time in United States history, a president has been convicted of a felony. If it wasn't clear before, it is abundantly clear now: Donald Trump is unfit to ever serve as president again.

While this is a huge win for US democracy and a heartening sign of the efficacy of the nation's judicial system, a felony conviction doesn't actually disqualify Trump from running for president or holding that office. You read that right: he could still be elected president this fall.

Over the disgraced ex-president's head still loom three other indictments that he could potentially be found guilty of -- and they all connect, in one way or another, to his terrifying goal of obtaining and holding onto power.

Two of the indictments relate to his trying to interfere with or overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 election that he lost; the other relates to his stealing and hoarding classified documents after he left office.

Trump clearly has no interest in participating in a democracy; he would much prefer a dictatorship where he is at the helm. And what he plans to do with that power, should he succeed, should utterly terrify us.

Look at what he has already done when in power. Trump stacked the Supreme Court with justices that have since stripped away reproductive rights, left voting rights defenseless, and refuse to protect our right to protest. Trump tore down wildlife and environmental protections, opting instead to give huge advantages to Big Oil. He ousted officials who disagreed with him or blew the whistle on wrongdoings. The list goes on and on.

This is the description of a man that cannot be allowed to hold power ever again. As a society, we must come together and ensure that Donald Trump stays far away from American democracy, which affects so much of the world.

Doing your part can look like many things. Pledge to vote against Trump this November. Donate to organizations fighting for democracy. Phone-bank or canvas. Talk to your neighbors, friends, family, and loved ones. Get the word out, and don't let the world forget the horrors that began in 2016. We cannot let Trump take power again. Sign the pledge!
