Last month, the Copenhagen Zoo shot and butchered a healthy young giraffe simply because they didn't want him breeding. This despite many offers from other zoos and rescues to take him. Now, the same zoo has killed four healthy lions, including two cubs, to make room for a new adult male lion whom they feel will enhance the gene pool of their lion population. We urge the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria to stop the Copenhagen Zoo from breeding "exhibits" and start performing the most basic function of any zoo: caring for the animals in their custody.
