Green River, Wyoming, is home to one of the last operational animal gas chambers in the United States. While most shelters have moved to humane euthanasia by injection (EBI), Green River continues to use carbon monoxide, a method known for causing prolonged suffering and distress.
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) recognizes EBI as faster, more humane, and cost-effective, yet Green River refuses to transition. The shelter's leadership has stated the chamber will remain in use until the director retires.
We demand the City of Green River immediately decommission the gas chamber and adopt modern, compassionate practices. Taxpayer dollars should not fund outdated cruelty.
