Godfrey, Illinois currently has multiple private companies that residents can choose from for their recycling needs. Residents can also choose not to recycle at all. These multiple companies cause many concerns for the city which include road deterioration from having multiple companies driving their trucks on the city streets, and the inconsistency of companies picking up their recycling.
Greener Godfrey, along with Godfrey Cool Cities and SIUe Successful Communities Collaboration, hope to eventually see a bill for the city to contract one company that offers single stream, curbside pick-up, and larger recycling bins that have lids on them (to reduce the amount of recyclable material falling out of the current bins that cause litter in the city). The signatures on this petition will be used to show the Godfrey Village Board of Trustees that the residents in Godfrey, Illinois would support a citywide recycling system if placed on the next ballot.
