Justice for Jack Letts

Our son, Jack Letts, has been 'disappeared' in a Guantanamo-style 'black site' in Rojava (Kurdish-controlled territory), northern Syria, for over five months and has had no contact with the outside world since July 8. He is being detained by Kurdish authorities who intercepted him when he was fleeing Isis-controlled territory after having worked in hiding against Isis for two years. Jack was told in May 2017 that the Kurdish authorities wanted to hand him over to the British. However, the British government has told us that they cannot help secure Jack's release as they do not have any consular access in Rojava, northern Syria, where Jack is being held, and because 'they advise against all travel to Syria.' The British government knows that public opinion is led by a media that promotes the idea that everyone who goes to Syria is a 'terrorist', and believes it has the support of the public in keeping Jack in detention. Jack has never been involved in violence and the British police have told us there is no evidence he has done anything wrong. Please show them that British people care about justice and human rights. During our last conversation with Jack he told us he was no longer being allowed out of his cell, was not receiving proper food, and had already spent two months in solitary confinement, with 'only his brain for company.' He was being given no clue as to what was going to happen to him. Since July 8, we have had no confirmation that he is still alive.
