Ecosia http://www.ecosia.org/ is an eco-friendly web search engine founded in Wittenberg, Germany in 14 December 2009. Ecosia is powered by Bing and Yahoo!, and comes from Christian Kroll, who is also the founder of the self-proclamed green search engine Forestle. Dubbed by Ecosia's press release it is "the greenest search engine in the globe" . Ecosia has been online since 3 December 2009. The server from Ecosia function with green electricity from Greenpeace Energy.

Ecosia is a privately owned social business that has pledged to donate at least 80% of their revenues to a rainforest protection program run by the WWF. In 9 March 2010 Ecosia had about 220,000 users world wide - about 60% coming from Germany- and donated over 474.000 EUR to the WWF's rainforest program.
