birds have wings for a reason. why should humans be able to control another creatures life and keep a bird in a cage and clip their wings to stop them flying away?

please see the wrong doing in keeping this legal.
I know it's such an accepted thing in today's society but when you really look at it, its cruelty at its worst. What did these birds do to deserve to be imprisoned?
