Protect the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund!
Climate action is about to take a huge blow as one of the most crucial pollution-fighting initiatives of the Biden Administration is under immediate threat. We urgently need your assistance now to ensure Congress prioritizes the well-being of your community and our planet.
The House of Reps is threatening to repeal the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) and the Methane Emissions Reduction Program (MERP). Instead of tackling the climate crisis and getting sustainable solutions to our communities, the House is making moves to take away $27 billion in climate funding while letting the oil and gas industry profit off of pollution.
That just doesn't make sense. The $27 billion GGRF is the first-of-its-kind investment that will unlock more than $250 billion in climate financing dollars over the next 10 years. This funding will directly benefit disadvantaged communities by helping fund green projects, and creating good green jobs while improving public health. Getting rid of these funds strips these vital resources from our communities and delivers them to the oil and gas industry — the very culprits of our pollution woes!
For too long, our communities and our environment have suffered from pollution while struggling to access the green solutions we need and deserve. Now, we're at risk of losing another opportunity to protect our climate once more.
Join us in protecting a historic opportunity to expand climate investments and say NO to methane pollution. Add your signature to the effort to protect the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund!
Dear Members of Congress,
I am writing to express my deep concern about the repeal of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) established under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). As your constituent, I urge you to consider the significant financial benefits this program offers before arriving at any decisions.
- Economic Prosperity: The GGRF directs billions of dollars in funding to increase access to green financing, which fosters sustainable economic development. This translates into the growth of innovative local businesses and a more robust economy. Preserving the GGRF would effectively transform the initial $27 billion grant into over $250 billion over the next 10 years, making it a financially smart way to accelerate the green transition.
- Job Growth: The GGRF is estimated to create 380,000 jobs over the next 10 years by significantly scaling the green bank financing model. The GGRF has the potential to generate new employment prospects across various sectors, thereby promoting economic stability for our nation and serving the best interests of your constituents.
- Innovation and Leadership: Safeguarding the GGRF will promote American innovation and position the U.S. as a global leader in not only addressing climate change, but leveraging innovative ways to pay for it. This program possesses the capacity to revolutionize markets, positioning the United States as a trailblazer in clean energy and nurturing our long-term economic competitiveness.
As both your constituent and someone deeply concerned about our country's financial well-being, I earnestly urge you to champion the preservation of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. By doing so, you send a resounding message that we must prioritize economic growth and job creation for the betterment of all Americans.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
