Save Canada's Seals: End the Slaughter
It's terrible to imagine: The merciless slaughter of baby seals has started on the ice floes off Canada's east coast -- completely defenseless animals beaten and shot to death for their fur. It's the largest slaughter of marine mammals on Earth. And most of them are babies: 97 percent of those killed are pups less than three months old.
Not only is this cruel practice condemned by scientists who say it is reckless, irresponsible and threatens the survival of seal populations, it doesn't make sense for Canada's economy.
Only 5,000 to 6,000 people -- out of a population of 33 million -- kill seals in the off season. These commercial fishermen earn just a tiny fraction -- less than 5 percent -- of their income from the seal slaughter.
Polls consistently show the overwhelming majority of Canadians oppose the annual seal slaughter and their tax dollars being used to promote it.
Urge Prime Minister Harper to do what's right for Canada -- and the seals: End the slaughter immediately.
Dear Prime Minister Harper,
It's terrible to imagine: The merciless slaughter of baby seals has started on the ice floes off Canada's east coast -- completely defenseless animals beaten and shot to death for their fur. It's the largest slaughter of marine mammals on Earth. And most of them are babies: 97 percent of those killed are pups less than three months old.

As an animal lover and someone concerned for the well being of Canada's economy, I strongly urge you to end the seal hunt immediately.
