Save Medicare patients from crippling inflation
Did you know that physicians are the only health care providers whose Medicare payments do not automatically receive an annual inflationary update? Thankfully, a bi-partisan group of physician members of Congress - Representatives Larry Bucshon, MD (IN), Raul Ruiz, MD (CA), Mariannette Miller-Meeks, MD (IA) and Ami Bera, MD (CA) recently introduced H.R. 2474, legislation that would reform this flawed system and provide annual inflationary updates for physicians like other health care providers, ensuring that more of them are able to continue to provide care for Medicare patients.
While there are many other concerns with the Medicare physician payment system that still need to be addressed, this legislation is a great first step. It will help put doctors on the same footing with other health care providers and give them the ability to invest in new ways of providing care. This will help Medicare beneficiaries maintain their access to high-quality care.

Recently a bi-partisan group of physician members of Congress introduced H.R. 2474, legislation that would change this flawed system to allow physicians to receive inflationary updates, based on the Medicare Economic Index (MEI), similar to those received by other health care providers.
