Africa's largest airline, Ethiopian Airlines, has shipped thousands of endangered monkeys halfway around the world for use in cruel and deadly experiments!
The airline, which appears to have ties to an alleged illegal international monkey-smuggling ring, has reportedly flown thousands of endangered long-tailed macaques from Ethiopia to the US on gruelling journeys. The company previously told PETA US that shipping monkeys was against its company policy. The monkeys were first shipped to Ethiopia from the East African nation of Mauritius by a different airline.
Ethiopian Airlines' monkey shipments empty forests of endangered monkeys, threaten public health and safety, and fuel the insatiable animal experimentation industry.
Please take action to urge Ethiopian Airlines to join nearly every other major airline in the world in refusing to ship sentient beings to laboratories for cruel and deadly experiments.
Dear Mr Adamu Tedele, Ethiopian Airlines,
I just discovered Ethiopian Airlines is tied to sky-high cruelty. Horrifyingly, your company shipped thousands of monkeys to their deaths in laboratories.
I strongly urge you to ban the transport of all monkeys destined for laboratories and laboratory suppliers. Monkeys suffer from being subjected to stressful, long, gruelling journeys in the cargo holds of planes, and during transport, they're more likely to shed deadly zoonotic pathogens. Nearly every major airline in the world refuses to ship these sensitive individuals to laboratories. Africa's largest airline has fallen behind the curve by aiding the callous and archaic animal experimentation industry.
Monkeys carry dangerous diseases, including tuberculosis, that can easily be transmitted to humans. Numerous Ethiopian Airlines shipments have included monkeys sourced from Mauritius, where tuberculosis outbreaks on monkey-breeding farms are well documented. This represents a grave threat to the health and safety of the public, including your flight and ground crews.
The monkeys Ethiopian Airlines transports, long-tailed macaques, are classified by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as an endangered species. Multiple importers and laboratory suppliers with ties to Ethiopian Airlines are currently under investigation for possible violations of monkey-importation laws.
In light of these facts, please use your position within the company to end all monkey shipments immediately.
Sincerely,
