Keep Air Clean - Cap Carbon Dioxide Pollution at 350 Parts Per Million

Leading scientists say 350 parts per million is the maximum level of CO2 allowable to avoid the worst impacts of global warming. The Center for Biological Diversity and 350.org have petitioned the EPA to establish this as a national limit on CO2 pollution. And they need your help.

More than 100 groups signed on in support of this legal petition. And now, well-known people are lending their names to the effort, including the nation's preeminent climate scientist, Dr. James Hansen, author Barbara Kingsolver, musician Bonnie Raitt, and actor Ed Begley, Jr.

Setting science-based national pollution caps for greenhouse gases -- such as no more than 350 parts per million for CO2 -- would mark a critical step in the fight against global warming. The Clean Air Act can help us get there -- but we need you to help us push the EPA to act and act swiftly.

Please sign this petition calling on the EPA to do its job as required by science, law, and common sense to protect our climate and clean air.
Dear Administrator Jackson:

I support the Clean Air Act petition filed by the Center for Biological Diversity and 350.org to the EPA to cap atmospheric carbon dioxide levels at 350 parts per million -- the level scientists have determined is necessary to sustain life as we know it.

Further, the Clean Air Act works. The Clean Air Act has protected the air we breathe for 40 years, reaping economic benefits 42 times its cost. Today, the Clean Air Act is our strongest tool to immediately curb greenhouse gas pollution and global warming.

Now, more than ever, we need you to fully implement the Clean Air Act to protect the air we breathe and preserve a safe climate. I urge you to grant the petition to set a science-based national pollution cap of 350 ppm, and fully utilize all of the Clean Air Act's successful pollution reduction programs to achieve the deep and rapid greenhouse pollution cuts needed to protect our future.

Respectfully,

Dr. James Hansen, Climate Scientist
