Thank Zambia for Banning Hunting of Lions and Leopards
With the dramtic loss of 75% lions over the last 50 years in Africa, the country of Zambia has banned the hunting of lions and leopards. The population of lions has dropped from 100,000 to roughly 32,000 in Africa, with more than 5,000 of them located in small, isolated populations, putting their survival in doubt.
"The cats are gone, and no amount of convincing from any sector or group will convince me otherwise," said Zambia's Tourism Minister, Sylvia Masebo. Lions are found in all of Zambia's major parks, but their numbers are limited. The total population is thought to be as low as 2,501.
Zambia's tourism minister said there was more value in game-viewing tourism than blood sport. Tell her you agree with this logic and thank her for banning safari sports hunting in Zambia, and for protecting the big cats from extinction.
