As commander of the 88th fighter squadron, he instructed 80% of fighter bomber support at Myitkyina for Merrill's Marauders. He also taught other pilots how to preciscion bomb within 10 yards of infantry soldiers without a single friendly fire accident. As a result he received a "Legion of Merit Award" for this action. August 23,1947 on a Training Mission he crashed into the Long Island Sound between Rye New York and Bayville Long Island.
Further concern arising from this issue alone is, if JPAC is unwilling to become involved for an MIA right on USA soil, in our Nation's own "backyard," how truly effective are they with worldwide efforts?
