As the owner of a beautiful rescue pit bull, this story has me in tears. Cargo (AKA Valarie) was a beautiful pit bull mix lady.
But some horrible person adopted her at a free adoption event, abused her for two weeks and then dumped her. She died of injuries just a day or two later.

A woman saw two men ditch Cargo on the sidewalk. She was so hurt and abused that she just laid there. The woman couldn't reach animal control so she reached out to Ghetto Rescue Foundation, who came immediately. A local vet opened up later to try to help Cargo.
They found vaginal trauma, which could mean abuse, though the vet said it could also be due to a recent spaying. She had also apparently been beaten because she died of an aortic rupture the next day due to chest trauma.
I'm so glad that Cargo didn't die alone on a sidewalk, but instead with sufficient pain meds and loving people around her.
But she never should have died at all. She didn't deserve two weeks of abuse, she deserved a loving home. Cargo was adopted for free at an Orange County Shelter event. When shelters are overcrowded, it's common for them to do free adoption events to try to find homes for their babies. They had no idea that the person who took Cargo was actually a monster. The person gave someone else's information and now it's up to the authorities to figure out exactly who actually took her.
