Don't Limit Freedom of the Press, Senator Feinstein

Senator Dianne Feinstein has proposed an amendment that would narrow the definition of journalists. By restricting press privileges and protections only to "someone who is an employee, agent, or independenct contractor of a media entity", she is discrediting and devaluing the work of independent and citizen reporters/bloggers.

Citizen journalists are essential to our democracy, an important foil to the corporate-sponsored mainstream media. In legally defining what she refers to as "real reporters", she is attempting to squash the stories that the elite might not want published.

Senator Feinstein, we call on you to reread the First Amendment and remember that “Congress shall make no law… abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.” Protect the Constitution and the freedom of the press, a pillar to a healthy democracy.
