The Humane Society of Canada is asking for your help to save the life of "Makoon," a 30 pound male orphaned black bear cub and his companion, a second bear cub, who was never even given a name. Defying common sense and science, regrettably, Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger accepted what is in our view, very poor advice from his wildlife biologists and released not only "Makoon", but also a second bear cub, this one only six months old, into the wild to fend for themselves. Imagine releasing two terrified bear cubs, unable to defend themselves, into the wilderness, without food or shelter, to a short lived cruel existence. In doing so, the Premier has also triggered serious collective and individual potential liabilities for his government under wildlife and cruelty to animal laws which means accountability and consequences for those involved.
With over four decades of experience across Canada and around the world in dealing with bears, The Humane Society of Canada has in the past provided support for a well known bear sanctuary called Bear With Us which is the best place for both bear cubs, here they can spend the next 18 to 19 months under the careful supervision of bear rehabilitation experts who can gradually re-introduce "Makoon" and his friend back into the wild where they belong and Bear With Us have already agreed to care for him.
Please sign our petition to ask Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger to reconsider his decision before anything bad happens to the two bear cubs and immediately recapture "Makoon" and his friend and send them to the Bear With Us Sanctuary where they can give them a fighting chance for survival. Please tell as many of your friends and family about this and urge them to sign; and if you have the time, please write a polite respectful letter to Premier Selinger asking to spare "Makoon's" life and that of his friend
