Save Costa Rica's Wildlife from Electrocution

More than a thousand wild animals have been injured and killed by electrical lines in Costa Rica. This is a result of animals coming in contact with uninsulated power lines and transformers. Every day animals mistake electrical lines for vines and trees or come in contact with vines or trees that are touching power lines. Between 1995 and 2007 Costa Rica lost half of its monkey population alone.

Private groups have come together to solve this problem by using alternative methods including making bridges and cutting branches near power lines. These methods have not been very effective as they hoped. The obvious solution for fixing this situation is insulating power lines and transformers, or even running cables under ground.

Unfortunately, the cost of installing conventional systems is cheaper. Which means that we need to convince the Costa Rican government that it is worth it to spend the money. Please take 30 seconds out of your day to make a difference to save the wildlife in Costa Rica.
