Shell OIl was fully aware of the coming effects of climate change in 1989. That's when the company reported it was redesigning a platform in the North Sea to deal with rising ocean levels, caused by climate change. But, while Shell was preparing for a future of climate change consequences, it was lying to the public, saying the science of global warming was not clearly understood.
Now three California state leaders want to hold Shell responsible for its deceit. United States Representatives Ted Lieu, Peter Welch, and Matt Cartwright have demanded that U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch investigate Shell for denying climate change.
