Longline fishing hooks, lines that stretch for 30 miles hooking and dragging hundreds of animals at a time, remain a common tool for fisheries in the Gulf of Mexico. They are trying to catch yellowfin tuna and swordfish, but these fish account for only a small portion of the animals actually caught.
That includes the Western Atlantic bluefin tuna, a species essential to the ecosystem of the Gulf but also rapidly reaching the brink of endangerment, becausethis is the only area in the world where they spawn.
URGENT ACTION NEEDED. THIS IS CLOSING ON JULY 15TH,2012
PLEASE HELP THE ANIMALS IN THE GULF OF MEXICO FROM DYING
