High School Golfer Denied Trophy Because She's a Girl

Despite coming in first place in a state divisional golf tournament, 16-year-old Emily Nash was not allowed to take home the trophy and was barred from advancing to the state tournament - all because she's a girl.

Please sign this petition asking the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association to change the sexist rule that prohibited Nash from taking home the prize she rightfully won.

Since there is no girls golf team at her high school, Nash played on the boys team and competed with them during the Central Mass Division 3 Boys' Golf Tournament. During the tournament, Nash came in first place in the individual competition, only to learn that she would not receive the trophy or be allowed to advance to the state competition because she was not technically allowed to play in the boys tournament.

According to the rules, girls can play on boys teams, but are not allowed to compete in boys individual tournaments. She would be able to advance to the state competition if her whole team qualified, but not as an individual.

Athletes should be judged based on their performance, not their gender. Emily Nash was the best golfer that day, not the boy who came four strokes behind her who got to take home the first place trophy.

Please sign this petition demanding that the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association let Emily Nash take home the trophy she deserves and continue competing in the state tournament, and also reconsider its rules so this situation doesn't happen in the future.
