Bring Renewable Energy to Native American Reservations

Tribal reservation lands occupy some of the harshest landscapes in the United States. Temperatures can range from over 110° F in the summer to -60° F in the winter. Heating homes in this climate is difficult and expensive even under the best circumstances. But for tribal families in reservation communities with poorly built houses, it can be an insurmountable challenge.

Many families rely on wood stoves, which pollute the environment, to heat their homes because propane, kerosene, electricity, and natural gas are often prohibitively expensive or non-existent.

President Obama proclaimed October 2009 as National Energy Awareness Month. Right now, Trees, Water & People's Tribal Lands Renewable Energy Program is working to provide sustainable, economically beneficial and environmentally sound energy solutions to Native Americans living on reservations.
