Two-thirds of North American birds are vulnerable to extinction because of climate change.
Familiar birds like the American Robin, Baltimore Oriole, American Goldfinch, and Allen's Hummingbird may become seasonal rarities if the United States continues its status quo for energy production.
We have an opportunity to take bold action to ensure a cleaner future for all. The Clean Electricity and Transmission Acceleration Act (CETA) promotes a responsible and timely transition to clean energy sources like wind and solar, which is key to reducing carbon pollution and helping protect wildlife and communities from climate impacts. It prioritizes early and meaningful engagement with stakeholders and community members to ensure that new projects are sited responsibly with birds and people in mind.
Urge your U.S. Representative to champion CETA for our birds and our future.
Dear Representative [Names will automatically be added]:
As your constituent, I am writing to ask you to cosponsor H.R. 6747, the Clean Electricity and Transmission Acceleration Act (CETA). This legislation would help the U.S. meet its climate goals while protecting vulnerable communities, growing the economy, and lowering the cost of electricity for consumers.
The U.S. Department of Energy's 2023 National Transmission Needs Study found that to meet growing demand for electricity, maintain reliability, and meet our climate goals, the U.S. would need to double or even triple transmission capacity. Without additional policy changes, the United States is unlikely to meet its Paris Climate Agreement commitments--which would be disastrous for wildlife, birds, and communities.
Two-thirds of North American birds are vulnerable to extinction because of climate change. Birds tell us that we need to act on climate now, before it's too late.
CETA would significantly speed up clean energy and transmission deployment without compromising protections for communities, the environment, or wildlife. For instance, CETA contains provisions from the A. Donald McEachin Environmental Justice for All Act that strengthen protections for vulnerable communities in the permitting process. CETA would also boost efficiency of existing infrastructure, reducing the need for new projects and lessening the impacts of a clean energy transition.
I hope you will be a champion for birds, our planet, and our community by cosponsoring the Clean Electricity and Transmission Acceleration Act.
