1) Save the planet - Obsolete and discarded computers oftens end up creating toxic wastelands in developing countries. Microsoft is creating probably the largest, forced and un-necessary computer hardware upgrade replacement (and dumping of old computers) on the planet! Some 500 million operating XP machines exists on the planet and the only real viable upgrade path is a full computer replacement upgrade.
2) Waste of Resources - Many consumers and organizational groups simply do not have dollars and resources to upgrade their current XP machines to new computers. This is extremely damaging to organizations and individuals who like to use their resources efficiently and reduce waste. Individuals, companies, organizatons and governments should not be forced into replacing working computer systems based on a corporation desire for short term profits forced from new upgrades.
3) Minimal cost to Microsoft. Microsoft has already indicated they will be doing the necessary security upgrade patching engineering for select customers anyway so it's simply a corporate decision on their part whether to provide security patches to general XP users after April 8, 2014.
4) It is time that corporations should be good world citizens by realizing that their business decisions have huge environmental and social impacts on the world that are more important that short term corporate profitability.
Dear Microsoft Corporation,
As a long time user and consumer of your Windows products, I have significant financial resource investment in computers that are running the XP operating system and devices, cameras, printers, that are tied to these computers. These XP computers still function and perform the functions I need to perform on a daily basis.
I find your corporate decision not to continue security support for Windows XP will impact me personally and force a huge, environmental, unnecessary toxic computer replacement for hundreds of millions of computer world wide and force financial stress on many individuals and organizations who simply can not afford a computer upgrade replacement when their current XP computer is still functioning.
In the interest of planet's health, and promoting good will for those that need to have their XP machines continue to function in the future with the necessary security updates, and for your own company image and self interest, I recommend you offer continued security support for Windows XP operating.
Signed,
The World
