In one of the most absurd developments in recent memory, the Black mayor of Livingston, Tennessee has declared April to be "Confederate History Month."
You read that right.
The right-wing efforts to push narratives of the Confederacy as "heritage, not hate," to protect the statues of Confederate leaders and retain Confederacy-related names are an obvious campaign to rewrite history and whitewash the deep-rooted evil at the heart of the Confederacy — the right to own, sell, and abuse other human beings.
We need to let this mayor know that the nation is watching and that Confederacy apologia has no place in our nation.
Demand Mayor Curtis Hayes repeal the order declaring April "Confederate History Month!"
