Increase In Pay For Alberta Wildfire FireFighters

I am writing from a place of experience, having dedicated 6 years of my life to the fire industry. Three of those arduous years were spent with Alberta Wildfire, a tasking job with woefully inadequate compensation. Too often, the danger, dedication, and sacrifice of these brave men and women go unrecognized and undercompensated.

In recent times, the number of wildfires in Alberta has surged. Along with this increase comes the tragic loss of firefighter lives and a retention rate for seasonal employees that is below half - milestones that one can only infer add to the size and severity of the outbreaks each fire season. With escalating occurrences and declining presence of experienced hands, we are on track to more disastrous fire seasons ahead.

The immense value of prior experience in combating this menace can hardly be overstated. Returning employees, armed with the skills and knowledge they have gained from previous seasons, can often mean the difference between a small fire turning into an uncontrollable wildfire. However, with the current level of pay, the incentive for these seasoned professionals to return is far from adequate.

This petition calls for an immediate increase in wages for Alberta's Wildfire Firefighters, a change that will help retain and reward their invaluable experience. The time is ripe for our decision-makers to recognize and appreciate the hazardous yet crucial work done by Alberta's Wildfire Firefighters. Let's ensure that these heroes get the fair pay and recognition they rightfully deserve. Please, join me in this fight. Sign this petition today.
