For 90+ years, Michigan's environmental agencies allowed pollutants to drain into Lake Superior. Aquatic and human toxins such as mercury, lead, chromium, and volatile organic compounds are draining into Lake Superior from contamination caused by the Chippewa County Road Commission's leaking diesel and gas underground storage tanks and their former unregulated landfill. Vehicles, barrels of creosote, vehicle batteries, tires, cans of paint, household appliances, and more are buried in the landfill.
Michigan's Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and EPA have known and neglected the Lake Superior pollution in Paradise, Michigan for decades.
Sign this petition to tell the EPA and EGLE, the Attorney General, and the Governor to stop Lake Superior pollution by enforcing the cleanup of the Chippewa County Road Commission's contamination site.
