An eight-month-old stray dog was recently murdered inside Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in CBD-Belapur when someone fastened firecrackers to its body and lit them. Its body was discovered by students who had been studying at a nearby library. This event follows a string of brutal stray puppy and dog killings in the area.
Early in 2012, a distemper viral disease broke out among stray dogs. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation claims they can do nothing to sterilize the animals because there is barely any space in their dog pound. Since then, sadistic civilians have lashed out against the dogs with brutal attacks and attempted poisonings.
Attackers are not being punished, so they continue harming dogs with no fear of retribution. Regardless of the viruses they may be carrying, dogs and puppies do not deserve to be brutally killed by civilians. Innocent bystanders are disturbed and sickened by the violence against dogs. Please urge officials to take this brutality more seriously and take action to find and punish the attackers!
