"Did you know that dogs the U.S. Army uses abroad in military operations aren't guaranteed a safe return to the states when they retire? Instead, these brave, intelligent dogs can be abandoned in conflict zones.
A recent movement has been proposed that would ensure all military dogs set for retirement will reside on U.S. soil and be put in the care of former handlers.
Transporting a retired military dog back to America is often costly, as well as a demand on resources, so the military may not want to accommodate this service without significant public pressure from people like us.
These animals can't speak for themselves, so it's up to us to make sure the Department of Defense takes this proposal seriously. The only way we can do that is by showing that people across the country won't let this issue go. Please sign this petition to tell the Defense Department you support the call for service dogs to retire on U.S. soil!"
