At 17, Sammy lived a double life. One as a carer for her alcohol-dependent Mum and siblings and another as a college student. But her life began to unravel.
"When I was just a child, my mum drank too much. Looking back at my life, alcohol was always there, playing a role. Often a silent role, sometimes a violent one, and eventually the main character.
"I felt like I was leading a double life. The one at college, trying to maintain friendships and relationships, and the one at home where the roles were reversed, and I was the parent. My focus became protecting my siblings and keeping mum safe.
"In 2018, I lost mum. At 46, she lost her battle with alcohol dependency. Every day 26 people like my mum die from alcohol harm. We need to change that now.
"Thank you for helping families like mine avoid their lives being affected by alcohol."
The number of people dying due to alcohol is currently the highest ever. And this has been increasing at the highest ever amount too.
Each of these people has a family like Sammy's. Please help us to change this and create a healthier, more positive future. Sign the petition now.
