Miami Springs is considering a mass massacre of the raccoons through the hiring of an exterminator, killing dozens of these animals. Such a method would seem cruel and brutal for the animals. When these animals are trapped, it is a terrifying eternity, and vulnerable orphaned young can starve when mothers are torn away. Killing the animals is indeed not the answer and there are other ways to resolve the raccoon concerns.
The efforts in this petition is to encourage Miami Springs officials to utilize other methods of resolving the raccoon population issues rather than killing them; methods that are more effective and humane. Mayor of Miami Springs & Paul O’Dell, Director Miami Springs Golf & Country Club – I strongly urge you to ban the plan to kill all raccoons at the Miami Springs Golf & Country Club as a way to control the raccoon population. We ask that you use a landscape modification, along with curtailing food sources and deterrents that is more effective and humane. Stop the barbaric plans for a mass massacre of these raccoons and opt for safer more compassionate methods with the welfare of the animals in mind.
