Point 1. Everywhere you go, every city, every freeway is lit up like it's xmas at night. The cost is staggering. Car & Trucks have headlamps don't they? Point 2. LED street lamps are available if you really want/need the light and are much cheaper for power costs. Point 3. LED street lighting maintenance costs are virtually nothing compared to Sodium and Incandescent. Point 4. LED's are projected to last 16 years! Comparison- Sodium lifetime cost of 2000 lamps $10,832,877 Vs LED lifetime cost $2,400,000 and that is just 2000 lamps! Make it a national reform to relamp all the streets now.
New York City alone would save about $336,000,000.00 per year averaged out just by switching to LED street lamps.
President Obama, you've just been re-elected, now we need to see the change; especially in governmental spending across the USA. This priority change in relamping the entire street lamps of the USA with LED technology will save a tremendous amount of money throughout the USA at every level of government responsible for keeping our streets safe through keeping them lit during periods of darkness. Let's lead the way in this technology by using it, making it a law to change to LED street lamps within 4 years time, and getting rid of the old costly outdated technology that wastes so terribly much energy and so much money. Let get up to date and stop living in the last century.
