Animal welfare advocates are calling for planning laws in New South Wales to be overhauled to give councils more power to consider animal welfare in development applications, according to a report on ABC.net.au
The move comes after an independent review by Yass Valley Council highlighted animal welfare legislation could be included in development consent conditions.
The report states: "The review also found that while animal welfare concerns raised in the submissions fell outside the scope of the council, there could be reference to codes of practice and industry standards in development consent conditions."
Animal abuse and neglect is regularly reported in NSW. Will you join me in urging the government to introduce legislation that ensures animal welfare is considered in all development consent conditions?
This will help prevent animal cruelty and will work to improve the quality of life of farm animals. Measures could include available space for each animal, light, conditions, food and water access. as well as video monitoring to ensure proper care.
