Dear [candidate name],
I am one of millions of Americans who treasure the natural beauty and history of our national parks. Our parks embody American values and our shared, national heritage.

Parks such as Yellowstone, Gettysburg, the Grand Canyon, and the Statue of Liberty celebrate both the natural wonders of our world and our shared, national story.
Our park system protects our heritage, enhances the quality of our lives, honors our cultural diversity, and makes exceptional contributions to jobs and our economy--generating about $10 for local communities for every $1 invested.
For too long, our parks have been underfunded and neglected. World-class destinations like these should not have to cut staff and programs, defer maintenance needs, or restrict visitor access for lack of funding. This must change.
As a candidate for president of the United States, a president who will preside over the centennial of the National Park Service in 2016, I urge you to:
-- Publicly state your support for the National Parks and your desire to ensure their long term preservation;
-- Commit to making adequate funding of the park system a priority in your administration;
-- Pledge to do everything in your power to restore and revitalize our park system; and
-- Ensure that the centennial of the National Park Service will be one of celebration and national pride.
A recent poll by the National Parks Conservation Association found that 95% of registered American voters want the federal government to ensure our national parks are protected for the future and available for their enjoyment.
I am part of that 95% and ask that you pledge, if elected, to protect our national parks.
Respectfully,
[Your name here.]
