Slovenia is the world's 5th greenest country but the focus on tree management has recently shifted to forest preservation only. Trees in the city centers are being destroyed as part of cost cutting measures municipalities are following in their cities' renovations.
The next to fall are 7 catalpa trees in Slovenia's oldest city of Ptuj. These 50+ year old trees can live up to 150 years and we see no need to kill them en entire century before their time. The trees are well established, healthy and are one of the last green spaces in the heart of the city.
While we all support the improvement and sustainable development of urban centers, we demand that nature be respected, nurtured and preserved. After all, trees beautify, purify and sanctify the urban atmosphere. Ecology and aesthetics fully justify preservation and protection of all healthy trees.
P.S.: Over 2,600 residents have signed the petition to save Ptuj's trees, but the municipal authorities persist in their plan to replace old established catalpas with new layers of concrete. They're offering a "compromise," to save 2 trees. We're demanding they adjust the architectural design for Ptuj's market renovation and save all 7 remaining gorgeous giants.
YOUR IMMEDIATE SUPPORT IS URGENTLY REQUIRED, AS THE FIRST TREE HAS ALREADY FALLEN TO THE AXE!
