Laws in Indiana prohibit neglect, abandonment and cruelty of animals, including any torture or physical abuse. Such laws also prohibit any engagement in dog fighting. These laws are both state and county wide which also governs all shelters and animal control agencies. However, unless charges and penalties for such crimes are not more stringent, innocent animals will still fall victim to such crimes.
Compassionate and caring people know that mistreatment of animals is cruel and unjust. There is never any excuse for harming an animal and should be common knowledge that such acts are cruel and unjust. The respect and care of animals should begin with our youth at home, teaching them that animals are not objects without feelings.
