If you're like me, your heart continues to break with the regular reporting of North Carolina puppy mill busts. While I am thankful that people are turning these offenders in, it is time that our state passes much needed regulations for commercial dog breeders.
Recently, in Cabarrus County, there were nearly 130 animals rescued from a puppy mill including 105 dogs, 20 cats and three goats per the Humane Society of the United States. The living conditions were deplorable leaving many animals in need of medical treatment and urgent care. Some animals were pregnant, covered in feces and left starving.
Animals deserve a safe and loving home. They need advocates to speak up for them, protect them and demand change. I ask that you sign this petition to urge NC legislatures to enact laws to prevent the operation of puppy mills and to protect the voiceless. Not only that, but to hold these puppy mill owners accountable for their cruel actions.
