The Peace River Valley in northeastern BC is under serious threat. The BC government wants to construct Site C, a massive hydro dam that will destroy 107 km of major river valley, some of the best agricultural land in Canada (Class 1 and 2), wildlife habitat and archaeological sites including First Nations’ gravesites.
Why Site C?
Government keeps trying to tell us that the province needs the power, but they really want to provide the energy to multi-national industries! The power from Site C Dam is not for our homes or businesses!
How do we know that the power is really for industry?

Who pays to subsidize industry’s need for power?
You and I do! Do you think that the BC government should put our hard earned dollars towards subsidizing the cost of energy supplied to international oil, natural gas and mining industries – especially given the volatility of these markets?
Where is the process right now?
Hydro's Site C Dam proposal is currently undergoing an environmental assessment process. The decision on this project will ultimately be made by BC’s provincial government.
The Peace Valley Environment Association (PVEA) will forward this petition to the leaders of ALL of BC’s political parties. In addition, let your MLA know that Site C is NOT AN OPTION and ask them to publicly state this position on the project.
To the Government of British Columbia:
Whereas Site C will:
~cost at least $8 Billion;
~be solely for industrial use;
~be paid for by BC citizens through significantly increased Hydro rates;
~will drastically increase Hydro's existing multi-billion dollar debt load; and,
Whereas flooding the Peace River Valley will:
~destroy nearly 1/5th of the farmland in British Columbia;
~destroy critical wildlife habitat in the Yellowstone to Yukon Wildlife Corridor;
~destroy First Nations’ gravesites and important archeological sites; and,
~destroy 12,000 acres of boreal forest
We, the undersigned, demand that the government stop plans to build Site C dam and put the long term financial and environmental interests of British Columbians before short-term political and corporate interests.
