Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has a track record of slaughtering Colorado's wildlife instead of saving it.
Just recently, the Colorado Wildlife Commission passed a ludicrous policy allowing CPW to trap and shoot bears and mountain lions to "experiment" with predator crontrol in order to increase deer populations. Sound research over decades has shown that killing predators does not increase deer populations, and that the decrease in deer populations in Colorado is a direct result of habitat loss from oil and gas drilling and human encroachment.
What we do know is that the new policy will result in CPW boosting their budget by $4.5 million and give them another argument to sell more hunting licences for the supposed population increase of the deer. It is very clear this agency prioritizes the desires of hunters over the needs of wildlife.
In addition, CPW continuously kills wildlife in Colorado parks that are managed by this agency. Countless prairie dogs, coyotes, foxes, birds, bears, mountian lions, bobcats and beavers are murdered by the tens of thousands throughout Colorado by this agency on a yearly basis. Poison to kill these animals is distributed regularly and affects many non-targeted species.
We demand that Governor Hickenlooper launch an investigation of CPW's wildlife *management* policies to expose the gross injustices this agency perpetrates on our public lands in the name of wildlife protection. We further demand that CPW ceases focusing their efforts on destroying our rapidly disappearing wildlife communities throughout Colorado.
Please sign our petition to help illustrate that we all care about our environment and do not want a government agency to engage in the rampant slaughter of our wildlife communities.
Prairie Protection Colorado will hand deliver this petition and your signatures to Governor Hickenlooper and hold a meeting with his staff to address our concerns. Enough is enough!
