Save the Coastal Marten!
Fewer than 100 coastal martens live in California because logging has destroyed 90 percent of the species' habitat. In February 2016, the California Department of Fish and Game will vote on whether to make the marten a candidate for endangered species protections.
A petition from two environmental groups, the Environmental Protection Information Center and the Center for Biological Diversity, asks the Department last June to consider endangered species protection for the cute, cat-sized mammal that resides in old-growth forests. Protecting the species will also protect these precious forests from further decimation.
Protection for the coastal marten is long overdue! Please sign the petition to urge the California Department of Fish and Game to grant endangered protections for the species this February!
Dear Decision Maker,
As you know, fewer than 100 coastal martens live in California because logging has destroyed 90 percent of the species' habitat. I am encouraged that you are currently considering the marten a candidate for endangered species protections following a petition from the Environmental Protection Information Center and the Center for Biological Diversity.
Protection for the coastal marten is long overdue. I respectfully urge you to grant endangered protections for the species this February. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
