How often do we see an abused animal and think if only the persont hat did that to them could feel the pain and suffering this poor defenseless animal did? Too often. It should never happen. The NFL has deemed that if you get caught with illegal drugs or performance enhancing drugs, you are suspended now for a shorter period of time. Shouldn't they be setting an example and promoting drug resistance education? To make things worse, Michael Vick was involved in Dog Fighting. He plead guilty to killing dogs and fighting them for money or sport. His co-athletes, stood up in court and said that "...the dogs are his property and he should be allowed to do with them what he wants. If he wants to fight them, so be it." Dogs are not property. They are living beings. I once saw a post that said, "Why be cruel to animals, when they treat you better than humans most of the time?" I agree. Vick, your agents and friends want your money and fame. A dog wants your love and attention. NBot to be tortured and killed for not performing well in a dog fight. And to top it off, he only had to serve 18 months in prison and pay some fines. That's horrible. I am petitioning to get Michael Vick and any other players caught doing things even remotely close to dog fighting, should be banned from Professional Sports in general. they shouldn't be allowed to come back and make millions of dollars in one season just so they can do it again, but hide it better this time around. After this petition is passed, I will begin starting a petition to Congress and the President, to make it a Class 1 or Class A Felony of First Degree Murder Of An Animal if found dog fighting or killing for fun.
Please note, the real goal is 100,000,000 signatures so we can show the head of the nfl just how strong this petition is. However, I will begin sending the letter to DeMaurice Smith, the head of the NFL with current signatures at 1000. It will continue to be mailed out thereafter at 5,000 / 10,000 / 25,000 / 50,000 / 100,000 / 250,000 / 500,000 / 1,000,000 / 1,500,000 / 2,000,000 / Etc... until 100,000,000 million is reached or until a judgement ban is reached. The more signatures we have, the better our odds of making this viral. We can get youtube and the media involved. We can really make a sensation and help protect beautiful animals.
Dear DeMaurice Smith,
It has been a heavy thought that has weighed on my mind since 2007 when Michael Vick was investigated and convicted of animal abuse and dog fighting. It has taken me this long to muster up the courage to ask you and the board to reconsider the ban on players found to be involved in this type of behavior. In the instance of Michael Vick, he was able to pay a few fines of chump change to someone with his kind of salary to the courts, got off with 18 months in a country club prison and a ban from the nfl for only 12 months for which was served while he was in prison. He was then allowed to return to the NFL and make millions of dollars again, as if nothing had ever happened.
I plan to address this situation through a petition to congress to harshen the penalties for being caught in such acts as well, but small steps first. The first thing I believe that should happen is a permanent ban from the NFL. If a player is caught participating or supporting another player involved in animal fighting of any kind, they should be given an immediate and permanent ban from the NFL if convicted. This will not only make players think about how they act, but how they are perceived as well.
What we fail to realize is, the importance players of any kind and from any sport have on the community. Players are looked up to and idolized. We try to teach our kids good things and to be good people. To treat people and animals alike with respect and honor. By allowing players to participate in these kinds of heinous acts and receiving only a slap on the wrist, we are making the statement that it is okay for you to go out and kill animals for fun, sport or money.
Most animals, especially house pets like dogs, unless they went through some form of pain or torture, usually just want someone to love on them. They don't want to use you, abuse you or mistreat you. They won't hit you, rob you or lie to you. They are simply defenseless, beautiful creatures and people like Michael Vick take advantage of that by training them to fight and kill. And then when they don't perform to his standards, he hangs them and cuts their throats? And then like useless garbage, just throws them in trash cans or buries them in mass graves with no dignity or respect. And all for what? To make a few thousand more dollars? That's called greed. Apparently it wasn't enough for him to be making an approximate $142 million in 2007 while the rest of the world slaved away for $7.25/hr.
Please take this entire letter into consideration. Also consider not only was he involved, he lied about being involved to a judge, he lied about killing any dogs to a judge and the day before he went to prison, he spent roughly $3 million on personal items and fun. If any other average person had to stand before a judge for those charges, I can guarantee they would have spent much more time in prison, had heftier fines that they'd be paying off until they were dead and gone and then their families would have to pay off for them and they would have been sentenced on at least 2 counts of lying under oath and purgery.
Please make this right by taking away his ability to do it again. Show players and the world that it's something that your organization will not tolerate. Thank you for your time and together, we can end the pain and suffering of those who can't fight for themselves.
